The two connected mountains of Whistler, Whistler, and Blackcomb, together form the largest ski area in North America, 4,757 acres, with 200 trails. Located inside British Columbia, about 2.5 hours’ drive from the city of Kelowna, Revelstoke offers everything that makes an ideal ski hill.

Revelstoke has probably the longest vertical in North America and is off-piste. Track skiing here is aimed at intermediate and strong experts. Beginners have some well-groomed blues, but only 7% of the mountain is classified as a beginner. Revelstoke is the place to come if you love trees. The ski tree here is truly world-class: The area is famous for heliskiing, with access to about half a million acres of land. You can still enjoy many off-piste adventures, but there are now 69 tracks and named areas within the 3,121-acre ski resort. The tree-lined glades here are legendary, and there are four tall alpine bowls.

A large bowl is reserved for the exclusive use of the Revelstoke cat ski operation, which is probably the best on the planet.

This is not the place for a glamorous five-star experience or high-end shopping. This is a mountain of skiers and a great place for families.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Canada

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Canada

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

You can not have the full picture of ski resorts in Canada, unless you take a look at Kicking Horse Mountain resort  Less known internationally, the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, on the outskirts of Golden, BC, is a three-hour drive from the city of Calgary, and is frequented by expert families and skiers. The mountain, which boasts 4,133 feet of vertical, presents an incredibly expert terrain, with steep slopes and excellent dust tracks. The mountain is oriented to the north and, as a result, good snow conditions tend to last. Three bowls drain into softer ground, where you will find intermediate and beginner races.

Kicking Horse consists of four large bowls, divided by long spine-shaped ridges, and over an extension of tree runs. But good as is skiing, it is not really why you would choose Kicking Horse over, say, Lake Louise, that you pass on the road. But if you like skiing with few people, Kicking Horse will be on your street. We recommend skiing along CPR or Redemption Ridge and falling into one of the legendary slides. Once inside, they are steep, but it never takes long before you’re open powder.

In the mountains, the Whitetooth Grill is the best place to have a beer after skiing. If you are looking for something a little more elegant, at the top of the mountain is the Eagle’s Eye restaurant, which is simply fantastic. We suggest staying in Golden to enjoy the atmosphere of the border city.
