The golden bridge: Vietnams giant wonder in Danang

The golden bridge in Vietnam

A pair of giant hands lift the “light as clouds Golden Bridge” up in the air above Vietnam’s Trường Sơn Mountains.

The amazing structure emerges from the trees of Thien Thai garden in Ba Na Hills. It is like ancient and totally modern at the same time. Lifted and safely held by history. Giant hands gently guiding you and making you feel secure, while you walk “in the skies”. Set more than 1,400m above sea level, the bridge incorporates eight spans and extends 150 m-long. Its green hands have been “aged”, as if they’ve been there for centuries. They must have been.

Lobelia Chrysanthemums are planted along the latticed sides of the bridge, like purple embroidery. Opened in June 2018, the bridge is reportedly part of a $2 billion project to accommodate tourists in the area.

The golden bridge facts

The Golden Bridge (Vietnamese: Cầu Vàng) is a 150-meter-long (490 ft) pedestrian bridge and art statement in the Bà Nà Hills resort, near Da Nang, Vietnam. It is basically designed to connect the cable car station with the gardens (avoiding a steep incline) and to provide a scenic overlook and tourist attraction. So this amazing piece of architecture and art has a very down-to-earth purpose too.

The bridge loops nearly back around to itself, and has two giant hands, constructed of fiberglass and wire mesh, designed to appear like giant stone hands that support the structure. The impression is overwhelming and convincing. This is a very creative and well-executed solution.

The client for the project was the Sun Group. The bridge was designed by TA Landscape Architecture (under the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture) based in Ho Chi Minh City. The company’s founder, Vu Viet Anh, was the project’s principal designer, with Tran Quang Hung as the bridge designer and Nguyen Quang Huu Tuan as the bridge’s design manager. Construction began in July 2017 and was completed in April 2018. The bridge opened in June 2018. And now you can visit any time.
