Luxembourg, the little grand duchy
Luxembourg is, after all, something as exotic as a grand duchy. With plenty of heavy industry, a well-functioning financial sector and a high-tech sector, the duchy is also a very successful economy and, moreover, one of the smallest and indeed oldest in the world.

Luxembourg as a travel destination
Despite the country’s small size, there is room enough for beautiful and varied scenery. With a rich and turbulent history that has left architecture and monuments in abundance, there is plenty to see. The fairytale-like castles and fortresses, which have protected the country against enemies from literally every direction, are especially fascinating. Vianden Castle and Beaufort Castle are just two of the many highlights that bear witness to the country’s historical heritage.
In fact, most of the duchy’s inhabitants live outside the towns in the countryside, where there are many natural attractions. Luxembourg City, the capital itself, sits high on a cliff with views over beautiful landscape. The rivers Alzette and Pétrusse wind their way through the city and give it a very distinctive character.
The old town is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Here you will find sights such as the Gothic Cathedral of Our Lady, the Grand Ducal Palace/Palais Grand Ducal, which is also the residence of the Grand Duke, and the famous Bock Casemates, a historic network of underground defensive passages. Also take a stroll along the Chemin de la Corniche, often called “the most beautiful balcony in Europe”.

For nature lovers, Luxembourg offers the idyllic Müllerthal region (known as “Little Switzerland”) with its unique rock formations and hiking trails. The Moselle Valley is also popular for its vineyards and charming villages, where you can enjoy the country’s famous Crémant and other wines.
The food is a journey in itself – from traditional dishes such as Judd mat Gaardebounen to the delicious Gromperekichelcher and Quetschentaart.
Finally, the country is known for its many festivals and events, including the Schueberfouer fair, the atmospheric Christmas markets and the wine festivals in the Moselle region.
With its small size and central location in Europe, it is easy to see most of the country, and its charm lies in the combination of natural beauty, culture and history – all in a compact and accessible format.
A grand duchy from 963? Few and small
The city dates from the year 963, and it is exceptionally beautiful here, and the hotels and restaurants really have something to offer thanks to the generally high standard of living! The people here know how to enjoy life. At around 950 km from Denmark, it is also an obvious destination for a road trip.
